In the back hills of Bonnezeaux is Domaine Les Canons. Now in their 11th generation, the family vineyards have been grown organically for over 100 years. In the coteaux of La Montagne, Matthieu, Florent, and their families are working the land the way it always was. Simple vinifications and mostly short elevages are preferred allowing the wines to be drunk
young and fresh.
Bonnezeaux is typically famous for very sweet dessert-style wines, coming from botrytized grapes or grapes with "Noble Rot". However, Matthieu and Florent have taken a page from the book of the other up and coming stars of the Anjou area, fermenting the majority of their wines dry, creating powerful, mineral-driven, and textural Chenin Blancs. They pay hommage to the heritage of their area with a single-parcel Bonnezeaux AOC sweet wine "Clos de Belligné" which shows in full force the beauty of Chenin Blanc and Noble Rot working together to concentrate flavours, but keep acidity.
