FAQ

About Echo

Who is Echo Wines?

We are Alex and Josh. Former sommeliers turned wine merchants. We met in Berlin and as we became friends we launched our idea for Echo. Now business partners, we took our passion and experience in wine to start a company founded on our similar values. We try to run a relationship based company and stress service above all things. We both wear many hats and can usually be found somewhere between the cellar and the table.

What are your favorite wines to drink right now?

Although the answer to this is ever changing, you can always find us drinking some Champagne, Burgundy, and Barolo.

How do you decide what winemakers to work with?

For us the work the winemaker does is the most important factor. We believe that good wines can be made in the cellar, but great wines are made in the vineyard. We seek those working organically and biodynamically, but we try to go beyond that. If a winemaker sees the vineyard as an organism and an ecosystem, then we are on the right track. We believe firmly that the vineyard is living and that work done in the vineyards helps to bring balance to the grapes. In the cellar we are not dogmatic. We are equally likely to be drinking low intervention Abruzzo to classic Bordeaux. For us the work in the cellar should be sympathetic to the work done in the vineyard. The cellar serves to showcase the vineyard, not the other way around. If a winery can find that magic combination and we tend to like the winemaker and want to finish a few bottles with them, then we say yes.

Have you met all your winemakers?

Absolutely. We try to run a very relational business. We love to know our winemakers and we make it a priority to visit all of them, to see their cellars, and see their stories.

Can I hire you to do private events?

Yes! We are former sommeliers and love to still dip our toes into the world of events and service. If you have an event that you need wine and wine service for, please send us an email at hello@echowines.com

Will you help me build my cellar?

Absolutely! We are passionate wine collectors and we understand the needs required to build and fill a proper cellar. We are in constant contact with merchants all over Europe and are happy to help facilitate the procurement of fine wines. If you have questions, send us an email at hello@echowines.com
