Derenda's wines have the magical structure and capacity to age beautifully for years. The amount of freshness which the wine still retains is beautiful. This is primarily due to the Terra Rosa soil and limestone bedrock on which the Cabernet grows.

The acidity and tannins have helped to keep the wine vibrant and extremely energetic to drink even 14 years on. The fruit profile is still fresh and ripe, but with some tertiary notes developig as well, showing the age without compromising the enjoyablity of the wine.

Derenda

After a long career as a computer engineer at IBM, Darko Derenda chose a very different path. Together with his wife Beti, he moved to the quiet village of Štanjel in Slovenia’s Karst region, where they began a new chapter as winemakers. Their vineyards are trained using the traditional Rozge method, naturally limiting yields and producing wines of deep concentration. Darko’s philosophy is defined by Tim. He insists on extended aging, often waiting six to seven years before releasing a bottle. His wines are a true reflection of this thoughtful approach: balanced, powerful, and shaped by the rhythms of nature rather than the pressures of the market.
