Darko Derenda spent his career as a computer engineer at IBM, but when you meet him, it’s clear—this is a man who never rests.
Upon retiring, he and his wife Beti made the bold decision to move to the small village of Štanjel, where they purchased vineyards and embarked on their journey as winemakers.
Their vines are trained using the traditional Rozge method, which naturally limits yields, resulting in wines of remarkable concentration and intensity. Darko insists on extended barrel aging, only releasing his wines when he believes they are truly ready.
Patience defines his approach—it is common for Darko’s wines to spend four to five years in bottle before release, allowing them to reach their full potential.
